Youth Olympic Triathlon: Clara Wong and Scott Ang team up with international triathletes in mixed relays

The mixed team relay was the last of three events in the Youth Olympic Games (YOG) triathlon programme. Singapore's Clara Wong was the lead-off triathlete for a world team comprising Italian Livio Molinari, Puerto Rican Cristina Betancourt and Zimbabwean Boyd Littleford; they finished 12th out of 15 teams in the mixed team relay. Compatriot Scott Ang anchored another team comprising of Asians -- Enkhjargal of Mongolia, Kirill Uvarov of Kazakhstan and Mattika Maneekaew of Thailand -- to 15th and last position.

Youth Olympic Swimming: Singapore swimmers make three semis and one final

Singapore had a slow start to the Youth Olympic Games swimming competition, but they are riding a good wave on the penultimate day with three swimmers and the women's 4×100 freestyle relay team qualifying for the evening semi-finals and final. Rainer Ng won Singapore's first silver medal of the Games last night in the 50m Backstroke to set the standard for other Singaporeans.

A Stunning Performance, A Special Experience

July 31 and August 1 marked an important weekend for some 20 students from APSN Chao Yang Special School and MINDS Fernvale Gardens School - they performed alongside their counterparts from mainstream schools at Ngee Ann City for the Singapore Youth Festival (SYF). This is the fifth year that the SYF has included students from special education schools, as part of an initiative to promote better understanding and foster friendship between students with special needs and students in mainstream schools.

Seng Kang Sink Greenview 2-1 with Last-gasp Goal to Finish Third in National B Div Football

Seng Kang Secondary rubbed off the disappointment of losing in the semi-finals to beat Greenview Secondary 2-1 in the National B Division third and fourth placing match. The game looked to be headed for extra time with both teams locked at 1-1 before Seng Kang broke Greenview's hearts with a 78th-minute goal that proved to be the winner.

Inez Leong Sets New Record in B Division Girls' 100m Hurdles Final

Inez Leong of CHIJ St Nicholas Girls' School broke the B Division girls 100m Hurdles record set by Singapore Sports School's Noreen Herman last year. Inez's timing of 15.14 was 0.24 seconds faster than last year's 15.35s record, an eternity in the world of short distance running. The gold medal was the first for the runner and her school in this year's championships and puts CHIJ St Nicholas one point behind B Division leaders, Cedar Girls' Secondary School.

"Torch of Friendship" Lights at the Opening Ceremony of the Singapore Youth Festival

Students from a cross-section of Singapore schools wowed the 14,000-strong crowd at the opening ceremony of the Singapore Youth Festival (SYF) 2010. The ceremony had the theme "Torch of Friendship" and featured numerous musical items, such as the Combined Schools Choir, slick dance items, a parade segment by representatives of all the uniformed groups, as well as vibrant performances by various display bands. Chua Chu Kang Secondary Students Enjoy Nike Elite Training Live Football

If you think that music lessons in school are only about learning scores composed by long-departed composers with complicated-sounding names, then Deyi Secondary School's classroom for the new GCE Music subject for Normal (Technical) stream students will surprise you. Step inside and you won't see a single piano or a score sheet stand - only rows and rows of computers. That's not the only contemporary thing about the course. Students also get to work with some of their favourite chart-topping pop songs in class. While most of the students have no prior training in music, they do share one thing - a huge interest in it.

Paving the Way for Future Young Innovators

090523APRK-MOESB-SST Open House-22Little toy cars were zipping everywhere, scaling walls and defying gravity. It looked like a topsy-turvy world, out of this reality. But it was just physics in action - an example of how future students of the School of Science and Technology (SST) will be learning in a fun and engaging way.

SST held its first Open House on 25 May, and curious visitors (including the Minister for Education, Dr Ng Eng Hen) had the opportunity to see what lessons will be like when the specialised independent school opens in 2010. Visitors were also treated to a glimpse of plans for the school's permanent campus, which will be completed in 2012.
