Tuesday, July 7, 2009
The registration of children for admission to Pri 1 classes in 2010 will be open from Tuesday, 7 July 2009 to Friday, 28 August 2009. If your child was born between 2 January 2003 and 1 January 2004, it's time to register him or her for admission to Pri 1 in 2010.
For those unfamiliar with Pri 1 registration, you may have some questions on your mind. To help you out, here are a few FAQs:
1. How does the registration process work? When is it taking place?
The Pri 1 registration exercise involves several phases:
Phase 1

All children registered under this phase will be given places in schools.

Phase 2B

2. Which phase is my child in?
Here are some examples of possible scenarios:
- Mr Goh wants to enrol his son in the same school that he was from. If he is not an alumni member, he will be in Phase 2A2. If he is an alumni member and joined not later than 30 Jun of the preceding year, he will be in Phase 2A1.
- Mrs Bala wants to enroll her daughter in the same school as her older son. She will be under Phase 1.
- Mrs Ng's son does not qualify under any of the earlier phases but still wants to register her son in the primary school that is less than 1km from her house. She will be under Phase 2C and 2C Supplementary.
- Mdm Rohana has been volunteering in the primary school that she wants to enroll her daughter in and worked more than 40 hours as a librarian in the school. She will be under Phase 2B.
3. Are there enough primary school places available?
You need not worry about your child not getting a place in a primary school as there are sufficient primary school places for all primary school children in Singapore. If there are more applications than vacancies in Phases 2A1 to 2C Supplementary, balloting will be conducted in the following order of priority:
- Children living within 1 km of the school of choice;
- Children living between 1km and 2 km of the school of choice; and
- Children living outside 2km of the school of choice.
4. What if my child is going or returning from abroad?
If your child is going or returning from abroad, we have schemes in place to help him re-enter a school here. They are the Leave of Absence and Immersion Scheme. Click here for more information.
5. What documents do I need to register my child for Pri 1?
Parents must produce the originals of the required documents at the time of registration, including proof of your child's identity and the necessary immunisation certificates. Each child should be registered at only one school at any one time.
If you are asking someone else to register on your behalf, a Letter of Authorisation from the parent would be required. If the child's grandparent or the parent's sibling's addresses are used for Pri 1 registration, a Statutory Declaration is required.
Parents can refer to the MOE website, or check with any nearby schools for more info.
6. Where can I find more information about the schools in Singapore?
MOE's School Information Service allows parents and students to generate comparative lists of schools based on specified parameters ranging from school achievements to CCA offered.
