Singapore Youth Festival

Come join us this July in a celebration of our youth's vibrancy. As part of the Singapore Youth Festival (SYF), our students will be putting up a dazzling array of performances that will be a showcase of their talent, enthusiasm and energy.

Tickets have gone on sale at SISTIC for the Choral Presentation, Concert Band Presentation, Singapore National Youth Orchestra Concert, and the SYF Festival Orchestra Concert. There are also opportunities to revel in the beautiful music and the visual extravaganza of dances at the various free SYF outreach events.

The SYF 2009 Choral Presentation will showcase performances by The Australian Voices and five outstanding local school choirs who have performed well at the SYF 2009 Central Judging of Choirs in April and May: Anglican High School, Commonwealth Secondary School, Nanyang Girls' High School, Catholic Junior College and Victoria Junior College.

This year, there will also be a combined choir consisting of representatives from schools which have been awarded the Gold award at the SYF 2009 Central Judging of Choirs. The combined choir will present the SYF 2009 Set Piece, 'White Horses' under the baton of the composer, Mr Stephen Leek from Australia, as well as 'Singaporean Medley' under the baton of Dr Zechariah Goh from Singapore.

SYF Concert Band Presentation, 8 July 2009, Wed, 7.30 pm (Esplanade Concert Hall)

The SYF 2009 Concert Band Presentation will showcase five local school bands who had achieved excellent results at the SYF 2009 Central Judging of Concert Bands in April and May. The bands performing are from:

  • Anglo-Chinese School (Independent)
  • Tanjong Katong Girls' School
  • Xinmin Secondary School
  • Anderson Junior College
  • National Junior College
The concert will present a repertoire of familiar classics including Verdi's La Forza Del Destino, Strauss II's Die Fledemaus, Puccini's Turandot, and Gillingham's With Heart and Voice. There will also be a combined band presenting the SYF 2009 set pieces, Two Overtures for Wind Band, composed by Dr Kelly Tang.
